形态描述：根茎发达，多分枝，块状；茎粗壮，高可达3米。叶片长圆形或卵状长圆形，长30-60 厘米，宽10-20厘米，叶面绿色，边绿或背面紫色；叶柄短；叶鞘边缘紫色。总状花序单生或分叉，少花，被蜡质粉霜，基部有阔鞘；花单生或2朵聚生，小苞片卵形，长8毫米，淡紫色；萼片披针形，长约1.5厘米，淡绿而染紫；花冠管杏黄色，长约1.5厘米，花冠裂片杏黄而顶端染紫，披针形，长约4厘米，直立；外轮退化雄蕊2(-3)枚，倒披针形，长约5.5厘米，宽约1厘米，红色，基部杏黄，直立，其中1枚微凹；唇瓣披针形，长4.5厘米，卷曲，顶端2裂，上部红色，基部杏黄；发育雄蕊披针形，长4.2厘米，杏黄而染红，花药室长9毫米；子房圆球形，直径6毫米，绿色，密被小疣状突起。花柱狭带形，长6厘米（其中基部约有1厘米长与退化雄蕊管连合），杏黄色。花期：9-10月。
